When MauiSMUG first started, we didn’t know where the journey would take us, or where the discussions would lead. It began as a panel discussion and a Facebook Business Page seemed the appropriate thing to do at the time.
Now, three years later, we’re a strong group of social media practitioners who bring a lot of ideas, stories and challenges to the meetings every month. These discussions continue online between meetings on Twitter and Facebook, but the Facebook Page activity has been dwindling over time. Partly, this is due to the fact that admins can’t post as themselves and have it show up in the main timeline, and partly it’s because the page is open to the world, so really deep and challenging, perhaps even contentious discussions are difficult to have. Oddly, sometimes you have to talk about social media in private.
So, we’re migrating from our Facebook Page to a Facebook Group, starting now. The Facebook Page will close a week from today, on November 8. I’ve invited a bunch of people to the new group, but if I’ve missed anyone (and I’m sure I have), please feel free to invite them too.
