About

Maui Social Media Users Group (MauiSMUG) was formed to provide an organized forum for people on Maui to meet regularly and talk about social media. The idea came as a result of the success of the High Tech Maui Social Media Workshop series that began early in 2010. The purpose of our meeting is to provide a fun, non-threatening environment for people to share what they know about social media, discuss ideas, successes and challenges, and learn from each other.

The original founders include Kim Haueisen, Director of MEDB’s High Tech Maui program at the time, Peter Liu of Kaiscapes Media, Karen Bennett of Picture It Solved and Jeff Bennett of Digital Splash Media. After the initial meeting in June 2010 to develop the idea, a panel was assembled to facilitate the sessions, including the people above, plus Tommy and Jen Russo of Maui Time and Liza Pierce of A Maui Blog. We’ve since added Erik Blair. At least one of these people will always be at our meetings.

The first official meeting, held at MEDB’s Malcolm Center on January 13, 2011, was a complete success. A full capacity crowd was in attendance despite torrential rains and flooding hours before the event. We had great participation from everyone in the room and the excitement was palpable as everyone was eager to learn more or get started in social media.

Today, we meet regularly once a month, on the first Wednesday of the month at MEDB’s Malcolm Center in Kihei. Mark your calendars! The meetings are free to attend.
